When creating standard shaped cakes for weddings and celebrations we make 2 different depths/heights – standard and extra tall.

With changing trends, we have seen taller cakes becoming more popular in recent years and as such have developed the charts below to help our customers understand how taller yet narrower cakes can feed just as many people as a wider, ‘shallower’ cake. Taller cakes are around twice the height as standard cakes, so each piece can be cut horizontally into two. This means a taller cake will feed around twice as many as a standard depth cake.

For weddings, cake pieces are traditionally dinkier for fuller tummies! These are sized at 1″ x 2″ x 3″. Larger ‘party’ sized portions are 2″ x 2″ x 3″. Let us know what you prefer.

We appreciate it can be a little confusing… so if you are ordering a cake you can just let us know how many people you want it to feed, if it’s wedding or party sized pieces you want, and we will do the rest! In particular for carved and irregular shaped novelty cakes that don’t have a standard shape we can work the sizing out for you if you wish.

Portion quantities are based on the cakes being cut in the sizes stated above. They are approximate in so far as they depend on how you or your venue staff cut the cakes.
